Have a look on ecosense website they do movement sensor which will mimic the remote control signal and turn off unit if no movement is detected in room can be set for example 15-30 or 60mins http://www.ecosense.uk.com/

Mark, Select Aircon (Linkwater above) fitted an Ecosense to our aircon as we rent our apartment out in the summer and it stops guests going out all day leaving the aircon on. It is set to switch off after 30 minutes if it doesn't sense any movement in the room. Mark has done a lot of-research on the subject, I can vouch for that.

A very simple and cheap way to do it is fit a timer switch into the socket, then plug the air conditioning plug into the timer you can then set it to be used at the time you wish, you can buy them anywhere, they cost about a couple of euros, I do the same with my water heater, saves a fortune.
