Having problems with Internet speed. Done a speedcheck shows download around 10 but upload at around 0.70. Which is best indicator? Thanks.

Which provider & speed are you contracted for? 10MBs download isn't too bad for Wimax (wireless) but very slow for fibre.

Upload is almost always alot slower than download.

Yours seems slow but more of than not i would expect something around 1-2mb with a 10mb download

What are you meant to be getting?

Your phone is probably faster on 4G

I am with HITS. Not sure if problem is with service provider or my phone (Galaxy) or anything else. All suggestions welcome.

On a Smartphone speed is usually a factor of signal strength with 10 down/0.7 up being indicative of a weak one.

In simpistic terms the Internet is a two way street and uploading is required to first call up a site and then to navigate through it, i.e. when you click on a link you are sending or 'uploading' that action, download speed being that at which the requested information is delivered.

It's delivered in small packets however and each one is verified by a return (uploaded) handshake before the next one is transmitted hence the upload speed can be quite small low in relation to the download.

The once familiar term ADSL seems to have fallen out of fashion but standing for Assymetrical Subscriber Digital Line describes the process outlined.

Upload speed for normal domestic usage is really irrelevant . . . unless you are posting say, loads of pictures or videos to the web, the only real uploading you do is sending emails which are generally small files anyway (Kb's, not Mb's) . . . 95%+ of what you do is downloads so that is what will effect you . . . 10Mb is not fast nowadays but is adequate for light usage.

Jonnno, if you are only getting 10Mb on fibre I would be asking Telfy questions. I have 50Mb from Telfy and I normally get just over the 50 mark the majority of the time.
