These piece's of shit that have been breaking into numerous houses in the area over the last few months aren't interested in breaking into rental homes they have been targeting residents homes ho live here full time and only interested in stealing jewellery small items that fits in there pockets they aren't interested in TV'S,laptop's or any large item,if you have bars/grills and shutters on your windows they will still get in.

When you buy grilles and locks you buy time...

Many robberies are opportunistic.. not all of course, but many are... if your house has an alarm, grilles and lights a burglar is more likely to move to one that doesn't..they don't want to waste TIME jumping over locked garden gates, wrestling with grilles, stopping alarms then jumping back over the gates again to get out.

If your garden gate is unlocked, you house dark, with no alarm the burglars will look it it favourably. If not, they will more likely move on.

I hear about so many burglaries that are so preventable. People going outside to sunbathe leaving their garden gate unlocked and door unlocked. Not having grilles... not having an alarm,.. leaving purses and bags in view of the window... (some burglars have "fishing poles " with hooks on.. they just reach through the window and hook a handbag..

If some people were a little more careful and aware there would not be as much crime.

..

Home security affordability for some people must come into it as theres no other valid reason for leaving yourself exposed to these scumbags

Hi Maria we purchased them from Leroy Merlin and were 10 euro each , we put them in the outside lights leave the switch on and they come on as soon as it gets dark and go off when it becomes light , we have also put one in a lamp at the top of our stairs so looks like there’s someone in .
Best Regards

It seems people are very security concious and rightly so. Do people not consider CCTV when installing locks and grilles etc. It has worked reasonably well in the area I live in here in the UK.

The laws on CCTV recording and use in Spain are a little draconian which perhaps puts off some people. No filming of any public space (road in front of your house, footpath). None of your neighbours property within shot. Signage to show CCTV etc etc. Whilst one would hope you wouldn't be deliberately filming neighbours etc, trying to limit CCTV coverage to within the perimeters of your own property might be somewhat difficult on anything other than a rural property.

Don't worry too much you are a lot safer over there. My Son told me last week in Central London two lads arrived on a scooter just before lunch time during the working week. Angled grinded a chain and then a disc lock off a £10K motorcycle right outside office buildings and a pub and were gone in 45 seconds as it was all on the CCTV.
What I can't get over was they didn't get the bike going first before they cut the locks. The bike was owned by my Son's colleagues.

There was recently a run of burglaries on montebello and Lo crispin but the group of 3 men have recently been caught , so that’s good news
