Sticky Drilling (Power Drill)

Hi

I have a reasonably powerful cordless drill,which is mainly encased in rubber for protection. It's usual resting place is in a large plastic mobile toolbox,so it's not just left out in a store cupboard or left on a shelf.

The problem is that the rubber covering has become quite sticky,the covering isn't actually coming off but the surface isn't pleasant to touch and easily picks up dust etc.

Is there any way to alleviate this problem,perhaps something that could be applied to seal the casing maybe ?

If anyone has any suggestions,it would be really appreciated.

We had a Pure radio that did the same thing. Tried Fairy liquid, alcohol nothing worked. Think it's just the humidity that does it. It feels sticky and horrible.

Apparently it's very difficult to fix permanantly....There are a number of things you can try.
* Warm water & washing up liquid.
* Mix baking soda & water to make a paste like toothpaste.
* Talc or baby powder.

It's probably the rubber compound breaking down, if so removing the sticky top layer will just expose more to oxidisation. Could you remove the rubber casing (or coating)? I imagine there is a rigid molding underneath.

We had the same thing with a hairdryer we had brought over from the UK. Ended up binning it!

Wrap tape around it making sure to cut away the ventilation holes. Do your jobs and dispose. Impossible to fix.

Easier to just wear gloves rather than bin the drill.

Talc it for occasional use, but a more long term fix is external varnish.
