It looks like we have some wasps starting to build a nest in one of our bougainvillea bushes.
Quite small at the moment, but there's quite a swarm getting seriously stuck into construction, so it's only going to get bigger.
Would appreciate any advice about how to get rid of it.

We shot ours off with the hose and then late in the afternoon covered it in a large piece of rag, scooped it up and put it in the bin. Found another one the other night in amongst the bird of paradise, hosed that off but if fell right in the middle so not possible to get it out. Will have to leave it until later in the year when they've gone. Maybe try spraying with wasp spray but late at night when they are not so lively.

Cover yourself from head to toes and spray with a heavy-duty wasp spray, do it late at night

Thanks for the tips guys. We got the hose on it and that's removed the nest, so now we will see how it goes from here.
I remember now, when we were in the UK, we bought an imitation wasp nest to hang in our shrubs. The theory was that if wasps believe there is already a big nest in the vicinity they won't build near it. So, I might see if I still have that in storage in the UK, or try to get my hands on something similar.

Dad had an alloy wheel screwed into the wall with the hose wound around it. They built a nest on the inside of the wheel, that was last year. We let them get on with mother nature and when they went knocked it off and threw it away. They came back to the same place this year, dad wanted to leave it again but I didn't. These wasps are fairly small, short and thin not like wasps I know

You can buy a spray which sprays up to 4metres away so you can stand well away. We have lots of wasps nest near our roof and in our fence. The wasps themselves do not bother us and are not interested in food unlike uk wasps so we leave most of the nests and only spray the ones near locks or where you are likely to put your hands. As for getting a wasps nest lookalike I wouldn't bother as we have had a row of nests build so close together. They do fight each other and are quite territorial. Our urbanisation has had a company in to spray the community areas but we are quite rural so they will be back next year, any nests we leave in place as they do not like putting up new ones near old ones and the nests themselves are quite small.

WD40 spray is also good for killing them.
