Sounds like you're talking about the Critair sticker.

Have a look on the RAC website. It gives many pages of advice on this subject. I have just done mine, and you can now apply on line. It has taken about 3 weeks to come through.

Only certain cities and only parts of those although in times of exceptionally high pollution they can expand the limits which can extend to include sections of motorways.

Best to get a sticker because you never know when unforseen circumstances might force a detour.

Have driven through U.K. through France, to Spain and back many times. Even last week. The only paper work you need is an online form to be filled in prior to boarding the ferry or tunnel, indicating what port you entered the U.K. by. And that’s it. Look on the gov.uk website. No hassles driving through France or Spain, no fines, unless you are doing something that is usually classed as illegal of course.

Hi,

The route that I travel does not need the certificate. I think it it only covers certain cities, it is similar to the congestion charge.

Same here...made the same journey 24th July.
All that was needed was the online form...

According to the RAC, if you are caught not displaying the sticker, depending in what part of France you are, the fines range from E68 (£59) to E135 (£117)
