Can anyone recommend the best way to send money from my Spanish bank account to my UK bank account please. We have sold our Spanish home and don't want to pay thousands to transfer the money to UK has anyone already done this please?

Thanks in advance.

we use transferwise for all our transactions.

Just looked at moving 100,000 euros over to uk and they are quoting 89,647 GBP, their fee was 408.82 euros. From bank account to bank account. Not sure if there is a limit you can send at any one time. There is an ID process to sign up as with all banking transactions to ensure no money laundering

We bought last year and used Currencies Direct to send from UK to Spain and they were very good. Going back the other way should be no issue. £ is creeping up v the Euro but you will still do very well relative to historic rates so I wouldn’t try to save a few Euro by risking your money with some chancers for a marginally lower fee.

Transferwise are no Chancers they are a leading transfer company I have used them since they started many years ago and are much better than Currencies Direct by far

Irrespective of the transfer rate there are limits that you can take into uk without breaching money laundering laws. Used to be £10,000 beyond that you must declare it to customs and fill in the forms etc.
As above I’d also recommend TransferWise.
You could for example also open a Euro acc with TransferWise and transfer to Sterling when you feel the rate is beneficial This is a fairly recent service they’ve started available in a number of currencies

Can you not do a straight bank to bank transfer?

Unlikely to be free but almost certainly cheaper than using a 3rd party.

€10,000 is the limit for physically transporting cash across borders so is not relevant here.

£89,440 for a £100,000 transfer does sound a tad expensive :text-lol:
