Once you receive your state pension from the U.K. you apply for an S1 form from the overseas health department which once registered gives you Spanish state healthcare. I’m guessing that you must be below state pension age if you don’t know what the S1 form is - you’d also need to show the S1 if you require medical assistance whilst visiting the U.K.
The only people now eligible to renew an EHIC are those residing in Spain pre Brexit with S1 cover. As a resident without the S1 form you cannot renew an EHIC. You have to be resident in the U.K. to obtain the new GHIC card.

As a Spanish resident your U.K. issued EHIC provides you with emergency medical cover whilst you visit other countries in EU, so it’s not valid in Spain or the U.K. You would now have to utilise your travel insurance for medial assistance to the rest of the EU.

Neither of those statements are correct.

Those who have come later on NLVs can, when they reach pensionable age, apply for an S1 which in turn entitles them to a GHIC.

You do not need to be UK resident to apply, anyone with an S1 can.

So in response to my answer to our posters questions, she is a pre Brexit resident not with S1 cover, can you help her by posting her a link please to renew her EHIC for some reason I can’t find it.

As a resident without an S1 she cannot legitimately hold, or therefore renew, an EHIC or GHIC.

Consequently there is no link to give.

If you are resident and below state pension age (not yet entitled to the S1), but working here and paying into the social security system you can apply for the Tarjeta Sanitaria Europea (TSE) which is the equivalent of an EHIC/GHIC issued by the UK i.e. it is for emergency health care when holidaying elsewhere in participating European countries.

OOPS, I thought I gave my S1 in when applying for my SIP card. Has anyone done this or has a S1 copy. I may have to get one reading this earlier quote. More work LOL

"I was talking to Newcastle office yesterday, re S1. asked the same question.
I was told if you are a Spanish resident, then you must show your EHIC or global card with your copy of S1 to get treatment."
