Moving to Spain

I know someone who is trying to sell their house in the UK so that they can move to Spain. They have been told that if they sell their house in the UK in early 2024 and then move to Spain in the same year, they will be subject to Inheritance tax in Spain. This is assuming that they become tax resident in Spain in the same year. I understand that this is part of the VISA application since Brexit. Does anybody have any experience of this and if there is a way around it. I seem to recall that earlier this year there was an article in one of the English local papers that claimed the Spanish government were either going to abolish or reduce inheritance tax.

Thank you Marcliff for the explanation on the best time to move to Spain to avoid tax. What about the reverse? If you are selling to go back to your country of origin is there an optimum time?

My experience was to sell up in the UK and move to Spain in November. Gained residencia the following year.
