European health insurance card

Due to my wife's death in July, my SIP card is cancelled (I was on her account).
I have obtained all the documents needed including an S1, and they will be submitted for me for registration and restoration of cover. But this can apparently take some time, especially this time of year.

I have a valid blue European Health Insurance Card. Would this cover me in Spain in the meanwhile should the need arise?

And so sorry to hear of your loss. I hope you are coping well over your first Christmas alone. Something I dread now we are getting older.

Newcastle were quick sending out a new S1 for me, this was about 6 weeks ago. I immediately took it to OneWay Services in Quesada with my TIE and passport, paid 25 euros and they dealt with it. The Spanish authorities then sent the one piece of paper that's required to obtain your new card back to OneWay Services who sent me a copy via email. I printed it off and took it the next day to my salud who input it into the computer and gave me my card. I used OneWay services as it saved booking an appointment at the social services office , finding out how to do it and then going into the offices in Torrevieja. All done very quickly and no stress.

As a resident you cannot use an EHIC in Spain, elsewhere in the EU yes but in Spain no.

Thank you marcliff. Thankfully a few friends have been very kind, so am out for Christmas Eve and Day. But I will still wish she were here with me, we were together for 60 years.
I hope you have a Great Christmas, and thank you for all your informative posts on TQ.

I can confirm they (Bufete Padilla law firm) offer this service for 20€. I visited them on 21st December and they submitted the request to register my S1. They'll send me the paperwork when they receive it.
