Has anyone used Ryanair car hire am I right in
Saying you still have to pay deposit on your credit
Card i.e. To cover any damage loss etc and they take
Out any money from the deposit to cover this claim
Then you claim the money back from the insurers after.

We hired a car through Ryanair at the end of last year. You pre pay for the hire itself from your credit card. At the car rental desk when collecting your car, they block an amount (in our case £400) for damage deposit. The money wasn't actually charged to the card, but held as a type of pending transaction, meaning that sum wasn't available to you to spend elsewhere. At the end of the hire period the charge was removed. And yes, they would charge the cost of damage to your credit card-you then will have to sort out a claim yourself with your car hire excess insurance company for reimbursement.

Ryanair use Rentalcars as their partner for Car Hire and are sometimes cheaper than Rentalcars directly . . . I believe by default, Ryanair offer the Full-Full option on fuel and provide the excess cover through Rentalcars Insurance, but you should check the individual hire terms you go for. The previous post is correct about the blocking off of the excess on your card but the amount will vary depending on which firm actually supplies the car.
