Renewal of Tyres for ITV

Advice please
The garage that I use to undertake pre ITV inspection maintains that after a certain period of time they have to be replaced

If so after what time please

I have only done circa 15000km since I bought the car in 2012 and the tyre tread is well above the minimum depth so the tyres would pass based on their tread depth

I would welcome members comment please

Thank you

check the sidewalls for cracks or crazing or if the rubber looks in poor condition then it is a blowout waiting to happen...the sun and heat degrade tyres much faster than low mileage usage

Agree entirely with Jim. We had an ITV in October with no advisories or issues having bought the car just 6 months previously and done minimal mileage as it's sat at the airport more than it's driven. We received the same advice and to keep the wheels covered as much as possible.

I believe it is illegal to have tyres on a car that are 5 or more years old regardless of condition !! , they are date stamped on side of tyre.
I know this because I have just had my car serviced and was advised to change the rear tyres , they have been on the car for 6 years.
If you are stopped by traffico and they check this you will be fined !!

have not heard of that one , ian, however the tyre manufactures recomend changing after 5-6 years...i have tyres older than that but only bought 3 years ago...one recomendation from traffico which i agree with is to change at 3mm tread depth as below this tyres cannot clear sufficient water in a heavy downpour
