Car insurance cancelation

Need some advice.

We are selling our at the end of this week. I made contact with our car insurance agent and made them aware of this.
We paid our annual premium for 2017-18 in May of this year.
I presumed this would be a fairly simple affair, whereby the insurance company refunded the portion of unused insurance that is to say 10 months.
I am getting rather strange replies from them.
Does anyone have any experience of this?

Our experience has been that there is no refund policy

Same here we cancelled our policy over the phone two months before renewal, they still took the money and when asked about this they said we should have asked for a cancellation form. So don't hold out much hope of a refund.

Depends who you are with i have alaays been refunded from liberty

Recently had my uk registered motorhome insured with them and after six months i put it on a sorn notice as it was parked up an i knew i would not be using it for a while

Once i supplied proof i was refunded around 45% of original policy cost so was pleasantly suprised

U should contact the company direct not the elusive broker

Don't know about your Insurers, but certainly with Liberty, they require proof that you have sold the vehicle, such as a copy of the Permiso de Circulación with the new owner's name on or the Contrato de Compraventa.

Jamiep. Be aware that a sorn notice is not valid here in Spain.

When I sold my car they transfered the insurance to the new car and I paid the difference. You don't get a refund

I've just sold my motorbike. Liberty wanted proof of the sale, but they then advised a refund of €106, which they will be crediting to my bank account.

Some companies do not refund but may transfer, Liberty will definately refund on proof of sale as stated previously you should always check this when taking out a policy in Spain as they are a law unto themselves.
