We just bought a car privately. Transferred money for our uk bank to sellers bank. Used graham and lee at Spanish number plates (highly recommended) to do all the paperwork and are very happy with how smoothly it went. Did the rounds of the dealers and found them overpriced and mostly unhelpful. Good luck, and recommend talking to graham or lee if you need guidance or assistance. They have been doing this for a long time and are very good. http://www.spanish-number-plates.com/

The NIR certificate which must be provided when buying a car, certainly a new car as it is a must in order to get the new number plates..I.e. registered in your name.
The earliest appointment we could get was for 13th April which was no good but with the help of our so,icitor, ny husband had to go to Orihuela Costa Town Hall twice and his certificate will be ready for collection on Friday morning.
We hit on a minor problem about paying as the bank insisted that my husband come into any branch to sign authority to transfer the money to the account of the garage owner. Not possible as we are in Spain and our account is in Northern Ireland. However, the bank suggested that we pay using our debit card which the garage owner is happy to do. You cannot use your credit card as the garage will have to pay commission on it.
