U.K. Car Insurance Expiring....

I arrived - in my U.K. car - a few weeks ago. I paid for extra insurance cover for the journey. My normal U.K. car insurance policy expires next week. I am about to start the process of getting my car transferred over onto Spanish plates. However, when I rang Linea Directa today, they said they would not insure my car until it is actually on Spanish plates. I see lots of adverts for ex-pat car insurance. Which ones will insure me to drive here in Spain on my U.K. plates and then update the policy once it has been re-registered on to Spanish plates ? I am now worried that I will struggle to be insured to drive after next week, gulp.

If you go to Jennifer Cunningham Insurance off the main street behind Oscars etc., and where the chop shop is, I know they will do it as they have done it for me with a company called Liberty Seguros, and I just have to tell them the spanish plates numbers and they change it. Just happening with me, whole process with Amanda has taken 16 days.

According to my agent (Cunningham)you can insure a uk car driven in the uk and insured from Spain, but if you are a resident in Spain you have 30 days to start the process of change to Spanish plates, maybe things are going to change I would think you have a rouge agent

Rightmove in Quesada will do it. Offered to do mine but fortunately I was able to change plates before my UK insurance lapsed. It will also be Liberty Seguros policy. Not clear if you intend to become a resident - but if so it is a pity as you will have missed an opportunity to import your car without the import tax as this has to be done within a month of arrival. Doesn’t apply to non residents. If people are thinking of changing to Spanish plates better to do it sooner rather than later as I noticed in the course of doing mine that non EU members pay a different rate which presumably will be more.
