hi all

i am thinking of buying a LHD spanish registered car in the uk and bringing it over to replace the car i have which is already in spain and registered.
has anyone done this and would i have any problems getting it registered in my name provided i had all the previous owners paperwork for the car? i have heard that when you sell a car you are responsible for the cost of transfer?

As long as you have all the previous owners documents it isn’t a problem

You are not responsible for cost of transfer
When you sell a car either include the transfer cost in the price of the car
Or say transfer not included

But suggest when you sell the car you get the transfer done yourself ,otherwise you will be liable for any speeding/parking fines etc

We did exactly that when we drove over to live here 10 years ago. We bought a LHD Spanish registered van in the UK. The major problem for us was that the ITV had expired on the vehicle. We found out that it could only be renewed when the vehicle was back in Spain, so we had no choice but to drive all the way from the UK worrying about the lack of ITV and the possibility of being subjected to a roadside check. Fortunately we made it unscathed and the ITV and change of ownership procedures with Trafico were then a formality, (with the help of local advice). Best advice beforehand though is to have a bill of sale (change of ownership) and make sure the ITV has not expired, just in case you might be stopped en-route.
