My car has been prepared ready for ITV where I park my car at Alicante Airport, but due to paper work the test has to be done at Torrevieja test station, so I have to take it there myself, when back in Spain next week. Can any one let me know what to expect and if there are any do's and dont's that I need to be a where of before attending the ITV station, I understand you do not have to pre book a time or date, is this correct, any help would be appreciated

The problem with not booking a time is that you might have to wait for an hour or more because of people who have booked can come after you and be tested before you. You probably would not get a time for next week now as it is short notice. I was once told that it was better to go after 2 pm as the queues should be shorter. Make sure you take your original vehicle document with you. If you have not done it before you will have to drive your car into the test station and remain in the car to operate the various lights and switches.

You need to take your documents to the office at the ITV station, pay your fee and park and wait in the car in the line number you are given. When your licence number is called you drive in to the testing area where the examiner guy/girl is waiting to guide you.
On the last two occasions we have taken our cars the mechanics have actually taken over the testing of the car once we have driven it in to the testing tunnel. We have merely had to wait by the side! If you end up taking part in the test procedure just make sure you know how to open the bonnet, operate lights, including fog lights, indicators and horn etc etc!! I have always found they are very helpful but sometimes you just have to be patient! We have always gone early morning and not had a problem but we recently took our friend's car and we turned up early [07.45] to be given a number in the parking area to present in the office. Our number was in the teens and the office hadn't yet opened!! So, it's difficult to predict the quietest time to go! I'm sure all will go well for you. Best of luck!

Go to San Bartolomé ITV station - near Vega Baja hospital on Orihuela road - during siesta time and you won't have to wait so long.
