Changing a British car to Spanish number plates

My car is a 10 year old cabriolet and in immaculate condition with 30,000 on the clock , looking at Spanish prices I do not want to buy a Spanish cabriolet , so am prepared to pay the price to keep my car, which will be kept all the year around in Spain, I am non resident.

1. Where do I go to get the paperwork, as I believe it is cheaper to do it myself as my children all speak Spanish .
2. Does anyone know of an honest reputable garage , as I had the lights aligned in France at the dealers and they said that I did not need to change the headlights, is this true
Many thanks to all the people who contribute to make this a fantastic forum

Hi just spoken to a friend who has done this they will find the phone no for me an I will post when I get it, as far as I am aware you will need to change the headlights for the car to pass an ITV in Spain. Kevin at Granite Autos can sort the headlights for you if they need doing and also sort out the ITV for you 634 323 462 see previous posts regarding them.

Cheers

Hi you can do the itv yourself just go to itv station near Carrefour in torrevecja you will need all your documents the engineer next door will convert you paperwork into Spanish €70 then you can have an itv done .you,ll need an appointment for this. Next comes visits to town hall and the notary ,and traffico good luck. My solicitor charged me €120 euros for it to be done

i bought a 1995 left hand drive pug 306 in the UK £1300, bought some LHD headlights off EBAY from germany £40, fitted them myself. i then drove over to spain on my Uk insurance and MOT.
the company i used was in la marina, they had a small office on the high street, i dont think they are there anymore but it cost me all in around 1000 euro about 6 years ago.
this included - all the legal documents, registration, suma, spanish log book equivelent etc, new spanish number plates (fitted), road tax for the rest of the year (6 months), ITV test and what ever else you need to have done. this was done by a scottish guy called john and his wife. they also dealt with the sale/purchace of a car if you were buying/selling.
not sure how much it would cost now but would have taken this extra cost into consideration if i had known at the time i purchased the car. if i was very good in my spanish i would have done it all myself and saved quite a bit.
the next car i buy will be in spain, it will probably work out cheaper or around the same, unless you buy from a friend. :D
