Now that the UK has a brexit extension until end January 2020 i am trying to 'pre-register' with the DGT to enable me to change my UK license for a Spanish one if/when we leave the EU.
To pre-register it is first necessary to obtain a digital ID which is the "CL @ VE" system. to obtain the invitation letter to obtain the digital ID i have to enter my NIE number into their system (see screenshot) but it will not accept my NIE number. I have enered it as Y*******Y without spaces or dashes etc but to no avail...!

Has anyone else tried doing this, can someone advise me if i'm doing something stupid..!

Thanks, Paul.

Whilst it's laudable trying to do things yourself sometimes it just isn't worth the grief and aggro.

Exchanging a licence falls within that so my advice is to do it through one of the agencies of whom there are dozens.

We recently did ours with one in Catral which several people recommended even though in fact with French licences we didn't really have to, or at least not with the same imperative.

We had delayed it because we had things going on which meant we would likely be needing to drive outside of Spain which we wouldn't have be able to do on the receipt/temporary paper you get while waiting for a Spanish licence to turn up.

Are traffic still accepting applications though as that was the thrust of my original post?

Not sure, i didn't get that far..!

On reflection, I'll go with the people who sorted our NIE, they also do the license exchange service and they can navigate it all...!

You'd probably be better off using a dedicated agent as it's one stop shopping.

Anyone you use will only be organising what you can easily do yourself (medical and test) and will likely charge you their fee on top.
