Driving thru France - Tolls

Hi - we are planning to drive over for 8-weeks in mid September - all being well.

We have done it numerous times, always avoid tolls roads - and take 4 nights enjoying the drive through French villages - we do overnights in France at Le Mans and just south of Bordeaux then another near Zaragoza.

However I have recently changed my car to one with built in satnav as opposed to using my trusty Tomtom and every time I try to route it - on the car - it won’t do it unless I accept tolls! So, then I go on google maps and although I’ve chose “avoid tolls” it keeps giving me “some tolls” particularly from Calais to Rouen and again near Bordeaux.

I haven’t tried it with my tomtom yet (which I still have and keep updated) but it made me wonder - has something happened in France to make it more difficult than usual to drive through to Spain avoiding tolls?

Has anyone any recent experience or encountered the same problem as me?

Thank you.

Tom Tom much more reliable than BMW. A great route Rouen, Evreux, Chartres tours, Poitiers, Angouleme, Bordeaux, Dax, opprobrium Ste Marie, Jaca, Zaragoza, Valencia, La font de la Figuera, Elche, Quesada. Lovely scenery and only 10 euros in tolls

Thank you - I’m not far away from your route.
I usually go Rouen, Chartres, Le Mans, Poitiers, Angouleme, Bordeaux, Oloron (stop at the Lindt factory shop ), Jaca, Zaragoza, Teruel, Elche.

I did used to go via Tours - but when I once did a hypothetical - “one route - Calais to Zaragoza” and Tomtom and Google indicated to go through Le Mans instead of Tours so that’s how I do it now but otherwise the same as yours and some beautiful scenery as you say. Fingers crossed

Remember to avoid Le Mans any time around the race. It is normally mid June, but this year is late August.
You don’t want to take a wrong turn and end up going round and round for 24 hours
