Think they are trying to minimise the amount of driving! Otherwise you are right, the Channel Tunnel also a good option but I’ve found little difference in the overall total cost when the extra fuel, road tolls and hotel stays are added in.

If you do a search for car transporting one post says around 600 euros. Have a look, might be more info in the post

I see u say u don’t travel well, so how about an overnight ferry Plymouth to Santander? Bring your own car, drive from Santander, approx 8 hours, beauty is you can stop as many times a you like. Just a thought.

Hi could you give me a app cost of the journey we would be travelling from Worcester but never thought of coming in our own car

Ok, not sure of how long it takes u to get from Worcester to Dover, for us it’s 4 n a quarter hours, and to Plymouth it takes us 5.5 hours. Dover calais France route one way, for ferry and fuel, cost approx £300. For Plymouth Santander route ferry and fuel costs approx £550. The drive from Santander is approx 8 or 9 hours so can be done in one with a few stops, or book an overnight place to break up that bit. I never use toll roads because they take you further on long sweeping roads to avoid villages and numerous roundabouts, and so, surprisingly I found it uses slightly more fuel plus the extra cost of the toll. Hope that helps

Hi, my husband enjoys driving, I am generally not a good traveller due to back issues, we ‘discuss’ every year how we’ll come over. This year we felt safer in our own car also due to car hire being more expensive this year we decided to drive. we’ve just done the Plymouth - Santander route commencing in the north of England. If you set off early and take your time, it’s not that bad, we’ve done all the various routes over the years and the overnight ferry is probably the easiest. Plenty of stops to stretch, have a coffee etc or a stopover to explore. The ferry wasn’t busy, although we did queue a long time to get on. Another option you could look into would be to get a trusted driver to bring your car over and you fly but then you’ll be paying for ferries and flights.

Thinking of driving over from Edinburgh next month, I know there are various posts on this subject , looking to go through the tunnel, what is best route through France, also would you have to prebook hotel stays etc.

Thanks
