It’s best to use the manufacturer of your car as this will then be a legal tow bar. They will obtain the certificate of installation for you from ITV. Otherwise using another company will then entail it being removed when you have a ITV and installing it again.

Ie ours is a Ford car and we used Jose Crespo in Elche.

You absolutely cannot remove an unauthorised tow bar for an ITV and then refit it, SERIOUSLY BAD advice!

That’s what people do here if they don’t do it legally - hence why I said go to the manufacturers as it’s then legal.

When you have a tow bar fitted you have to have it ITV'd and added to your documents within 14 days.

Thanks for the information, Mercedes want to put a new radiator in as they set it up for towing large caravans etc. We have a very small trailer and simply dont need the rad changing, just the bar fitting hence why we are looking for a garage locally.

Anyone can fit a tow bar so long as it's homlogated for the car which effectively means buying it from the cars manufacturer.

Their product should come with an attached plaque with its approval numbers etc. and woth supporting paperwork, it's those which are essential for having it added to the cars documentation and records.

Even without the radiator you mention doubtless Mercedes will not be cheap so it may be more cost effective to just buy it from them and then have an independant 3rd party garage fit it.

That of course presupposes that Mercedes will in fact sell you one and that you can find a reputable and qualified 3rd party to fit it for bearing in mind that in this day and age it's highly likely that some 'adjustment' to the cars electronics will be necessary.

Fau Verte in the Carrefour car park are approved to supply and fit aftermarket towbars and they will issue all the paperwork you need to go to the ITV station and have it entered on the cars documentation
