ITV test

Would be very grateful to anyone who could assist me in the following query. Due to a health issue I was unable to return to Spain. As a result my ITV car test lapsed by 7 months. So the question is, do I need to provide evidence to ITV to show that I was not in Spain nor was my car on the road during that time before they will provide me with an ITV certificate?

Sorry but absence from the country, for whatever reason, is no excuse for not renewing an ITV but in any case ITV stations do not care when or why an ITV expired, they test cars as and when presented plain and simple.

You have two, or possibly 3, options.

1. Wait until you get back to Spain then have the car transported to a station for an ITV, This is the legally correct course of action.

2. Before you get back arrange an appointment for an ITV then drive the car directly to it. In the unlikely event of getting stopped by police on the way there is every chance that they will let you on your way but in the worst case the penalty is only a €200 reduced to €100 if paid within 20 days. Cheaper than a Guru! It will NOT invalidate your insurance.

3. If the keys are in Spain, and can be got to a friend or neighbour, then you should be able to arrange for a garage to pick it up and take it for an ITV for you so it's ready to go when you arrive.
