I have had several sat/navs fitted to various cars and now I would not look beyond Tom Tom.
Easily upgradable, particularly needed in a country where the road network is constantly changing.

Garmin is excellent, we got it half price from Halfords in the UK, plus we get free lifetime updates. We would be lost without it here in Spain, has found some very difficult places for us, especially useful when you have an appointment to keep.

I ran a test between my Garmin Nuvi & google maps on my phone, run at the same time, same journey.

Found google maps to be better, more notice with junctions & better turns. Only issue is....if your phone rings...

We swear by Tom Tom. No-one could find our villa, apart from the estate agent who sold it to us! Our locksmith was up and down our road for hours before he eventually found it and when our grandson came over with friends in July, the airport taxi driver left them all in 40 degree heat - with all their cases - as he couldn't find it either! When my daughter came with me in April we got a Tom Tom and it's a totally different story. Mind you, we had so much to buy to re-stock the villa, I had the bright idea to divide and conquer so she took the hire car, complete with the Tom Tom to buy different things and I shopped till I dropped in Carrefour, thinking that a local taxi driver would find our villa. Two hours later we found it! Our daughter thought I'd been abducted as I forgot my phone so we couldn't contact each other. It was only the driver's 2nd day on the job, bless him. I'd already spent approximately 2 hours shopping so, wholeheartedly, I'd recommend a Tom Tom. It's our best friend, alongside a phone out here! It never goes wrong and doesn't desert you in your hour of need! My husband, Paul, thinks they're wonderful and it took ages to persuade him to buy a Sat Nav some years ago. This one is purely for Spain and even though he's got a brilliant sense of direction he still can't get home (here) without it. Having said that, we've only been over for four days - his 1st trip since we bought it in April. We've fallen in love with our beautiful villa and Quesada and the surrounding area all over again. I've digressed again - an age thing! In short (or not) long live the Tom Tom!!! It rules!!

I've owned two Tom toms and two garmins. I found the garmins much more reliable, and don't think that I'd ever buy another Tom Tom. I'd go garmin again

My Garmin Nuvi that is updated is far better than the satnav that is built into my new car. I also have a very good Navman for sale if anyone interested. Good order & great in Spain.

I use one on my mobile phone that is completely free to download, is reliable and have used it in all countries that we have visited
It will work without being on the internet as it uses GPS
Its called navmii
You can download it for home and then pay extra for different countries but the secret is to search for each country you want (i.e. navmii spain) and download it separately
I've used all sorts over time either built in or hand held systems
This is great and now also has live updates to re calculate and direct you to avoid traffic issues
