what to expect weatherwise in October

what to expect weatherwise in October

Postby blackvelvet » Wed Aug 14, 2013 5:48 pm

Will be coming mid to late October to finalise our property purchase.
First week spent sorting signing paying !
Hope it's feasable to then have keys and spend second week cleaning and organising
As would love to spend at least a little time there.
Just wondering what to expect of the weather so we know what to bring clothes wise
And also we want to have doors and windows open as much as possible
(Obviously with grills and gates always locked due to safety concernes)

We have been there during the first two weeks of October for the last 8 years and although it's never cold it can be changeable. Best case though was last year 2012 -It was fantastic weather, good enough for the beach, and when we left the neighbours told us (+ we saw the forecast!)that it stayed that way well into November.
In some other Octobers we have had a Gota-Fria, which for those that don't know, are very heavy rains due to the change in air temperature. There can be some flooding but most newer houses are built higher than ground level and are usually OK, unless they have a basement. These heavy rains are short lived but can last from 1 day to a few days.
We usually just bring a light jacket for the evenings and pack-a-macs can come in handy. However October can still be a warm month and mostly very nice, especially during the day.

Yes, I think it is true to say that October is the month during which we are least likely to avoid prolonged heavy rain :)

I'd guess that in about a third of the 9+ years I have lived here there have been continuously miserable periods of up to about 10 days (I think '07 was the worst).

We tell our visitors to "Google" el tiempo en Rojales. This seems to be the most reliable site for local weather conditions

I'm not a sun worshipper, but I do like to be able to have a dip in the pool!! I usually come out in September - but last year I made the mistake of coming out the last week in August. I had thought that there wasn't going to be much difference - but was I wrong! You can never tell with the weather. Every year when I have been there in May I have been able to go in swimming. I was there for a month this year - and only got in the water as far as my ankles!! I have been in October, and although there was a Gota Fria it was generally warm - just right for walking etc.

Or Crocs, and the water just flows through them ( leave a towel in the car!) :) Also they are legal to drive in, providing you use the heel strap ... Trafico may fine you if you have backless shoes, OR your toes are not covered. I have to admit to taking a chance on the latter, as, in my usual sandals, my toes are uncovered ... my Croc-copies have a broken strap. That does seem a very silly restriction, just aimed at raising money.

All mostly very gloomy accounts of the October weather in Spain, In reality there are at least 25 to 27 sunny days, 2 or 3 cloudy days and 1 to 3 wet days. Temperatures are normally around 28 degs at the beginning of the month in the afternoon and 24 or 25 by the end of the month. So to sum up about 3 or 4 times better than june or july in UK in the south of the country. Mike ex weather
