Air fryers

While we were relaxing in Spain, my daughter, husband and family moved into our house for 2 months waiting to take possession of their new home. I have NEVER wanted an airfryer as could see no need for one. Jon ordered a Philips Airfryer the same as theirs to use while in our home and left it for us. My husband absolutely loves it! It sits on the worktop and he cooks his burgers, crispcakes, bacon, toasties, chips, roasties and whatever takes his fancy. We even reheated some cauliflower cheese which came out perfectly.
I will never stop being an old fashioned cook using pots and pans I’m not a lover of fast food but this airfryer is certainly a fast food cooker. The grill rarely goes on, nor does the oven. You can cook a chicken in it much quicker than in the traditional way. It’s definitely not something that is never used. It seems to be the new way ahead. My son in law also bought a THERMOMIX and thankfully took it with him. I’m far too old for all these new gadgets!!

Good point, the efficiency of the air fryer comes in large part from the hot air being able to fully circulate all around whatever is being cooked, that's why they use a trivet in the basket, so any impediment to that can only increase cooking times. Personally I cannot think of any circumstance in which I'd want or need to use one of those silicone containers they sell supposedly to keep the basket clean.Graham_Lynn wrote:Lots of people use dishes to cut down on the cleaning, but if it reduces the airflow, then it increases the cooking time.
If you have to use a container then make it a glass one which at least will conduct the heat reasonably well.
I scoured the China shops for a glass dish which best fitted mine and in that I can cook a 3 portion Shepherds pies or Lasagnes etc.
