There is a cafe opposite the newsagent in a side street in Queseda that makes utterly fantastic egg custards

Mercadona now do the Portuguese ones in their fresh pastries section.
If you've never tried them, you'll be hooked! Very nice

The pastry is very different, though. More like a flaky type which doesn't seem to go very well. Mind you, their quiches are great.
Bit like the custard slices you can get in various bakers. Quite nice but the custard is, well, different.
I do like many of the cakes and pastries you can get here but a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to stuff with custard in. Now, the custard filled doughnuts are lovely.

Growing up in Birmingham we used to get custard tarts from Wimbush's and I have never forgotten that taste to this day
I must admit I do have a great fondness for the Portugese style to, and yiu can eat more at one sitting
Making your own us easy but it takes skill to get the pastry right. No soggy bottoms
