Locked Threads

Postby Mickey Braw » Sat Jul 26, 2014 2:10 pm

For the second time recently I have tried to post on a thread but it has been locked.
Today it was on the 'Noise on Quesada' thread.
I've read through the posts. Could I ask why the thread is locked?

Hi,
Threads are locked for various reasons, sometimes when they have reached a conclusion and sometimes when they have become a bit 'heated' and we want to 'nip in the bud' any possible arguments. Also very occasionally we may get a private message complaining about something and we use our discretion and may lock the topic for that reason too.

Also we have found that occasionally an unlocked topic has been 'revived' again, out of context, many months after it was started.

We don't always get it right, as moderators, but with experience we have found that it's often better to be safe than sorry, rather than have people upset and complaining.

Jan.

Thanks for the response, Jan.
I take your point though I do think that sometimes it's better to remove the offending posts rather than locking the whole thread.
It is dificult to strike a balance that suits all. I don't envy you.

Obviously we do remove the odd offending post sometimes but it depends on the topic if we decide that locking it may be better.

Luckily we don't seem to have many problems on TalkQuesada as we have a lot of very friendly members but our policy from the beginning was to do our best to keep it friendly, to help make people feel they want to join in.

Having done a bit of forum moderation, I'd say that you have the balance just about right.
I think it's better not to delete posts unless they are really offensive, as it allows other forum members to form their own opinions of what's been written.
However, when you start to see sarcasm, and especially comments like "Well, if you had taken the trouble to read ....." , you can be reasonably sure that the thread is on its way downhill, and it's time to 'file it and forget it' :)

The Noise from the fiestas for me is acceptable, its no different to the Notting hill carnival in London, and I for one like Spain because it is a place you can go out til 8am in, I went to the Guadamar one at the weekend, had a fantastic night, rolled in at 9, back out for the F1 for hair of the dog, met some great people and had a great drink and dance.

I think those that surround and complain about bars such as Lo Marabu loungue, well you might get your wish as the Police have clamped down on Bars with live music. It does not bother me too much as the singers start and finish too early, so i'd rather hit a club but for some folks they might not return, so the whole town will lose out.
