We have nothing to do with the company REVOLUT but our Daughter uses them.
https://revolut.com/
They are a company where you can deposit currency in GBP, EUR, or USD. You can then spend this money anywhere in the world in the local currency and you can elect which of the three currencies you want to use for the payment. You get to see what the exchange rate is, using the phone app, before you commit to the transaction. At the moment they are commission free and the exchange rate is comparable to Transferwise or Currencyfair.
You can get money from ATM´s but only a limited amount before a small surcharge. You can make unlimited debit card like purchases without any additional cost, they make their money on the exchange rate presumably. You can transfer money into bank accounts, yours, your friends, utility companies etc. They say that bank transfers can take a few days which is why we use Transferwise as you can get a same day service from them.
I also thought that you could make utility company payments from your own UK bank using SEPA, although I don´t know what their charges are.

Trotter - I have the details of the 123 Account that we picked up from the branch in Quesada and it states 123 Account - Non Residents at the top.
Will try and post a picture of it !

Santander UK and Santander SPAIN run as two different companies under the same umbrella. I need to get documents signed for my Santander UK account but can't do it in Spain.

I have just read a post in another forum(Costa Blanca) where a lady has stated "you can give both the electric and water company your U.K. Bank Account IBAN and BIC codes and they will take payment from that account".
She then went to the town hall and registered to receive her council tax bill by e-mail which she then pays online.
Now you may pay some conversion charges but it might be cheaper and more importantly one less institution to engage with?
Sounds promising - but does anyone know of anyone else doing this?

Hi Ian
that is good news, I will follow your details up and arrange both of those bills from my own bank in the UK , I would like to know if I can do this with Suma bills , internet provider and also my TV provider All my bills are paid direct from the bank in Spain.
My bank La Caxia takes quite a bit from my account in maintenance, credit card ( which I don't use )and non resident fees ,I am seriously thinking about changing Banks .
I send Via ( MONEYCORP) regular payments 3 monthly to cover the bills , any suggestion's would help a lot with my outlay

I used my HSBC DEBIT card to pay the deposit for my flat. 2x £3000.
Last time I do that hsbc charged me £70 on each transaction.
If you go online HSBC and register your Spanish bank account using its IBAN number you can transfer money when you want . Its at the base exchange rate as well
Cost £4
Has you been hassled by your bank to prove Cho you are with your passport and a proof of address .
Did you get it to work.
