Hi that is true but if you paid by bank card you in theory can get a refund but it is certainly a lot more difficult even in the UK. Credit card is generally the best. if you pay by DD then you must inform the insurance company in writing as said at least two months before the renewal date an also tell your bank and show them proof that you have informed the company and make sure you keep copies of all documentation, if you miss telling them by one day they will try to make you pay. so be warned.

Yes that's true - I cancelled our Spanish house insurance 3 months in advance in writing by snail-mail and also email and asked them for a confirmation by email. Also confirmed that the present insurance policy would continue until the renewal date, as that could have been a problem. They confirmed everything and my new insurance with a UK company started on the renewal date. As I said in a previous topic it was a nuisance to cancel and swap but now I'm happy to be with a company that doesn't work like the Spanish insurance companies and gives a renewal price in advance, with enough time to change companies if need be.
