Air Force pilots would practice in the planes that they have to fly in their normal duty.
The propellor planes that you hear are trainers. They are used to train new and upcoming pilots on the basics of how to fly a plane, followed by the basics of combat flying (formation flying, low-speed dogfight scenarios etc). Once the trainee pilots become competent in the propellor trainers they advance to jet trainers. It’s a long time until they’re given the keys to a €100m Eurofighter.
New pilots tend to find it difficult to fly over the sea. It’s much more difficult to remain orientated when there’s very little difference in colour between the sea and the sky, and much more difficult to assess your altitude when you don’t have the visual clues that you get when flying over land.
There are also air lanes to consider. You’ll notice that commercial flights from Northern Europe tend to fly down the east coast to San Javier, which is where the military planes are based. Keeping the commercial flights just off the coast, and the military training flights inland helps to keep them separated, which is good for all of us!
If you’re really bothered about the safety implications of the training flights taking place over built-up areas then you should discuss your concerns with the military personnel at San Javier. It’s much more likely to achieve something than discussing it here.

Theyre model aeroplanes, far too small to have people in them.

Anyone who has ever used San Javier airport will have seen these Spanish Air Force pilots taking off and landing. It is a Military airport and when the new airport at Covera opens and commercial flights finish at San Javier the Air force will take it back 100% .
I must say I have often wondered how such small planes make such a very loud noise.

The make a load noise because the propellers will be set for climbing and turning so they will be at raw pitch and not feathered

No, they are not great. They are a noisy nuisance. Had to close doors again today so has not to hear them. WHY can’t they play somewhere else. Inland maybe over open fields.

Oh dear. It sounds like they are flying closer to your area and maybe lower overhead to your property than others.
Is this every day? As I can't remember hearing them very much at all and only saw them rarely in the Lo Marabu area when we've been there.
I wonder whether they are flying more these days over Quesada. Also could it be a Winter thing?

Yes , everyday this week. They have just started again cos I didn’t notice them in summer. Think they are a bit lower this year. I swear I saw the pilot laughing.

I hope they stop again soon in your area - Maybe they swap their areas around intermittantly.
I'm locking this topic now, as there has been one or two recent unhelpful and unnecessary comments, which have been removed.
Thank you.
