Bird Keeping

Postby wobblypete » Tue Apr 25, 2017 4:40 pm

Back in the UK we had several Aviaries, My Wife has now decided she would now like another Aviary here! I'm a bit past building Aviaries now, so would like to know if anyone knows where i could find someone who could supply & fit an Aviary here.
Alternatively somewhere i could purchase a decent size Budgie Cage.

They have lots of things for bird keeping including large bird cages in the pet store near Consum on Lo Marabu, Dona Pepa.

Anyone advise me where to go for a good selection of Budgies? I have tried Madagascar by Consum, but only a couple of white birds. Someone told me there is a large store near Dolores with a good selection, but i don't know where it is, would appreciate any help.

There's a fair selection of birds at 'Pet's World' at Los Dolses CC, just off the N332, between La Zenia 'roundabout' and Zenia Boulevard, opposite the AP7 toll booths, next to Lidl/Mercadona/Yorkshire Linen, etc (and others).

I was at Pets World La Zenia today stocking up for my birds and they had none at all and don`t normally have many anyway. The the other Pets World you mentioned has been gone for several years and is now very close to Garcias off the Crevellients Road and they do have a fair selection of birds sometimes.

Apologies for the mis-information - we bought our birds, about 12-18 months ago, and haven't been upstairs since, just stock up on the ground floor. I'm due to stock up again before I go back to the UK, so will remember to enquire as to what's happened.

Tony, I`ve used the one at La Zenia since it opened and out of the three Pets World ( The other one is just past San Miguel on the road to Orihuela ) they seem to have the less birds. Although I have bought two baby cockatiels from there. The other one near Garcias has more birds, mainly budgies, canary`s and zebra finch`s and of course many other birds. !!

I get my birds as babies from a breeder friend and hand feed them until they are weaned.

What birds do you have.

We chose a pair of Masked Lovebirds, having previously kept Budgerigars, a Cockatiel and our last was a Kakariki. I must admit to being slightly hesitant, as my Sister has Lovebirds and must be unto about the fourth generation now - and their beaks are vicious. Mine are no different - my fault as I had the choice of just a single bird, which might have bonded better, but chose a mixed pair, for company.

I have seven cockatiels, five of which I handreared. I used to breed Budgies in the UK. You mention Lovebirds, one flew down into garden last year and virtually adopted me. I had no idea where he came from but he was extremely friendly. He would just fly down, have something to eat and drink and play with my other birds, and then fly off . I had clipped my birds wings. This he did for several days then because the weather became a bit cold and windy I decided to adopt him and bring him into the house, so I bought him a new cage. But it didn't work out Tony, he became very jealous of the other birds and they off him, so much that he attacked one, and injured her. And yes, their beaks are sharp. So he had to go.
So it was with a heavy heart that I took him to the Pets World by Garcias and explained the situation. As I shop there a lot, they do know me very well. Luckily, one of the staff kept Lovebirds himself and was only too happy to take him. I shed a few tears I can tell you, and I still miss the little guy to this day. But I`ve been to see him in his new home and he`s settled down with a new mate. I called him Romeo and I`m the Admin on a couple of cockatiel groups on Facebook and they just love to see videos of him. :D
