It Never Gets Cold in Spain Iain Duncan Smith

Just to say thank you Iain Duncan Smith for denying the retired expat community in Spain a small cold weather payment of £200. Thats probably what you spend on lunch and claim for on expenses. Bet Theresa will give you a pat on the head. But on behalf of our expat Community a kick somewhere else.

Speak for yourself. As a pensioner living here on the lovely Costa Blanca for many years, there is no way that WFA should be paid to us.
There is a massive difference between the climate here and in the UK.

I am with you Life of Brian..... my mum is 101 years old and I need to keep her warm....she earned her WFA and it wasn't her choice to come here....I am saving the British government a fortune in home care fees as she did not have any money or own her own house when we came here xxx

As for Mickey Braw.... you aren't 101 years old....you didn't go to war for the UK...they probably don't owe you like they owe my Mum

I can't debate either way about the fuel payment as I don't live full time in Spain but what I will say is, in the UK we can have our heating on from end of Sept to end of April in some years which is very costly.(Depending on how cold it is, it can be 6 to 7 months)
In Spain most of our friends living there say they have two or three months where they need heating on constantly inside the house, mostly evenings and early mornings,  as they say it is warmer outside most days in winter in the middle hours of the day. It is still expensive to heat a home in Spain but it's usually only around 3 months that constant heating may be needed. Dec to end of Feb. Although March evenings can be cool in the house too and then a bit of heating may be needed depending how hardy you are LOL (That's the earliest we've ever been during the year)

Jan, that more or less says it all. We were in the UK in June last year and had to use the heating in the apartment we rented, the weather was dreadful for a couple of weeks.
For quite a few months of the year here in Spain, we barely need to use hot water.
There is no justification for paying the WFA to Brits living on the Costa Blanca.

Maisiesdad, perhaps one day you will add something to a debate on this forum. I won´t hold my breath.

if you live in spain full time from the UK it was your choice to live here, you must have known the WFA is not available if you qualify for it.you can always move back to qualify for benefits, which I suspect a lot of pensioners live here own 2 homes , 1 spain 1 uk,and claim everything available.

Similar line that I was going to take.

Feel free to move back to the UK, pay those UK energy bills throughout the year, and have the £200.

I also appreciate that some may not be able to move, through ill health or other reasons.
