Melting Garden Furniture?

Melting Garden Furniture?

Postby AnnetteD » Mon Jun 19, 2017 8:48 pm

We ordered some PU rattan garden furniture in the U.K. from DFS which was due to be shipped to the Murcia depot for us. They've cancelled our order saying the furniture will melt in Spain. The very same furniture can be bought from DFS in Spain so we're a bit confused. Has anyone experienced melting rattan effect furniture?

Has a life of around 1/2 years if not protected from direct sunlight , the cheaper stuff starts to break down on the arms and where the plastic is wrapped over the box section frame , it starts to stretch and go brittle then falls to pieces , good [ !!!] quality if cared for will last around 5 yrs . Like all Chinese rattan furniture, horrible and uncomfortable to sit on , needs loads of cushioning , a lot are badly designed and poorly made . Best of luck.

I have had cheap white plastic furniture for 10 years left out uncovered in all weathers, even extreme heat as I used to live in inland Almeria. All that has really happened is it discoloured eventually! I have a rattan set now from Argos and will probably leave that out too! Had it a few months and no signs of melting.

Good luck

Thank you. We have rattan effect in the U.K. and it's lastest about 6 years so far. Obviously the sun isn't as hot (apart from this week) but so far no sign of damage. We just found it strange that DFS make it and distribute to Europe but won't sell it to us and ship it over. Ah well, their loss. Thanks again.

We bought our Rattan furniture from Iron Art,now called The Siesta Group in Los Montesinos. It's been on the roof terrace uncovered in direct sunlight for 4yrs. No sign of damage.

If DFS are selling the exact same furniture in their San Javier store, I expect it's to do with cross-border currency transactions and they just want you to buy it here, so that they don't have to ship it from the UK. That said, my wife did a lot of research on the currently fashionable man-made rattans and the quality varies tremendously. Round rattan is much more durable than the flat variety - we bought ours from Siesta Group in Los Montesinos and cover it as much to protect it from dust, as well as sun, on our south-facing terrace. Our neighbours bought a flat rattan two years ago in dark brown and the colour is rubbing off on the arms. It seems it's very much a case of, "You get what you pay for".

We were paying £1199 so not exactly cheap and they're still shipping our indoor sofa and bed over so nothing to do with currency. We're back over in a couple of weeks so will have a look at Siesta Group. Thanks.
