Padron drive

Padron drive

Postby Martin the artist » Tue Oct 17, 2017 7:57 am

The townhall are asking everyone to get on the padron if not already, or renew it if necessary.
The more that are on, the more money the town receives from central government.

Yes. If you have property in the area, you ought to enrol on padron.
Some towns you have to be resident first, but not Rojales where you just have to be receiving bills for your property.

Martin the trouble is that I just don't trust the tax authorities not to look for tax liabilities where none exist as a genuine non resident. I just don't put anything past them. For that reason when they introduced the 720 form and the excessively punitive penalties they imposed I did not renew the pardon and why I'm reluctant to sign on again. The pardon is generally for residents, Rojales is bending the rules (for reasons I understand) but I fear that signing on again will bite me on the backside one day. Best to stay off the radar for non residents in my view.

that signing on will not come and on the backside

If you are non-resident, why would the 720 form bother you? It is for people resident in Spain to declare foreign assets.
I take it you are quite happy to have the police force patrolling, the streets being cleaned, road repairs being done, information being given by town halls, courses available also at the town halls and anything else that the ayuntamiento provides?
However, if you stay of the padron then the ayuntamiento will not be able to claim any allowance for you from central funds which means those of us who are resident have to pay more just so you can have all these utilities provided for you.
Empadronamiento has absolutely nothing to do with tax.

The tax people have nothing to do with the Padron... signing on will not change anything for you personally---but it might make it possible to hire another Bobby and he might just stop someone from robbing your house.....

Such hostility! You make it sound like non residents live for free! We too pay taxes. I pay for water, for rubbish collection, and rates which presumably go towards the police and street cleaning. And an imputed rental tax (what a rip off that is!) Can I remind you as a non resident spending little chunks of time in Quesada I do not benefit from courses or many things that residents can enjoy. Non residents generally take very little out from the system so why should the ayuntamiento claim anything for us? If I need medical care it is the British tax payer or my travel insurance that picks up the tab.

I know full well the pardon has nothing to do with tax at the moment. But who is to say that AEAT at some point in pursuit of legitimate tax dodgers does not decide to look at the pardon lists to look at the tax affairs of residents, which you are declaring yourself to be if you sign up to a register meant for residents. If that were to happen the onus would be on me to prove my status and all the bureaucracy that would entail. Sorry if it means you have to pay more to enjoy all those utilities as a full time resident.

I don't think any hostility was meant - I didn't read that - & of course you do pay a non-residents tax.
BUT the tax offices around the world now share information with each other, so they can get any information they want on your financial affairs without having to peek at the padrons.
And obviously, it is your choice what fiestas you go to etc., but the padron is free and it does mean the town gets more income to keep it looking nice etc. so we can be proud of our town.
