Travel to Malaga

Postby tor » Wed Mar 29, 2017 1:53 pm

Hello,

My parents (pensioners) are visiting Quesada in Sept/October of this year and they need to get to Malaga one way on 5th October. I was surprised that there are not many bus/coach companies doing regional travel or even direct flights from Alicante or Murcia. Can anyone advise as to what they could do?

Or you could catch the high speed Renfee train from Alicante via Madrid suspect this is the most relaxing way to go its roughly 2.45 mins each leg you change in madrid remember August is peak season and quite an experiance to boot i,ve driven to malaga don,t know what age Mum and Dad are ?

Thanks Glassman and Gasplumbman. My parents are in their seventies (they will be turning 78 and 75 during their visit to Spain in Sept/Oct) - I heard that some car hire places don't like renting to people of this age? They would rather take a direct flight or coach/train as driving is now a bit tiring for them for various reasons. That train option sounds interesting but they'll be paying for the detour to Madrid - will look into that nevertheless... Many thanks for your help ;)

It could be worth going into Rosa Tours by the arches and ask them if they have a suggestion of how to get there. They run coaches and coach trips and not saying it will work but if nothing else you could ask if your parents could pay one way to get a lift on one of their coach trips.
Let us know what happens as it could help anyone else who may want to do similar.

Thanks.

Thanks Jan, though Rosa Tours weren't able to help or offer any ideas. It does seem difficult to get about if you don't have a car or want to drive, doesn't it? :?

Oh dear - Yes it does, particularly if you want to go further than Torrevieja - When we bought our holiday home there were new bus stops being placed all around Quesada and Dona Papa. We were thinking how handy the buses would be as they had a list of the route at each bus stop, going all around the urbanisation, but then the buses never started and the bus stops were never used - It was strange! (Except of course the Arches bus stop and the few and far between buses that goes through the town from there.)

I don't drive in Spain, as I've got older I find the thought of it nerve wracking - I'm told it's just because its unfamiliar, as I do drive in the UK but no-one is going to convince me to drive in Spain. Even in the UK I tend to avoid motorways and only drive from and to familiar places these days.

The best local place for buses is Rojales - They have buses going many places and not all local. Torrevieja is good too, masses of bus routes, but that doesn't help us in our bus-dry area, all we see is tumble weed where the bus stops and routes should be.

There are indirect flights available from Alicante to Malaga just not on 5th October but there is one on 4th at around between 60 to 75 euros.

Thanks Jim and Toots. :)
Alsa.es is a good site to know about though they don't have a service to Malaga, unless from Madrid. This is a link to their regional connections which are not linked up across the country:

I'm still checking out flights on various days but no joy yet...
