Recommendation for Bar Studz Benimar
by Jan » Tue Apr 10, 2012 10:37 am
We often cycle into Benimar and stop off for a quick lunch. We like Bar Studz for their 2 course daily specials (starter & main or Main & Pudding). They are freshly cooked and good value at 3.95 euro. The food is essentially British and the staff are friendly. Bar Studz is not for a posh meal out but the grub can't be beaten for value.
Revised cycle route to follow, for those of you who want to cycle there .

I will write it down and put it on here soon. I did post the route once on TalkQuesada but a few changes happened like a supermarket (Mercadona) got built rather quickly, blocking off one of the roads on route. It hasn't made any difference to the time it takes (about 30 minutes) just a detour but I will have to rewrite it again.
We also cycle to Montesinos and that's another nice cycle route - no main roads. As you may have gathered, I don't do main roads or roads with more than a few cars if I can help it. I will write that down too soon, if you would like it.
Also Torrevieja is a good one, along the cycle lane and then the old railway path alongside the lake which comes out near the salt museum opposite a park which goes through to near the Marina.
Jan.

Thanks Jan,
I'm of the same opinion, like to avoid cars as far as possible, but not a cross country off road kind of gal

Hi Alison,
You will like the Benimar /Rojales route and the Montesinos route then - generally nice smooth roads and cycle lanes.
The Torrevieja route can be a bit 'off-road' type bumpy along the lake-side.

I have put this route on another topic but I thought I would add it on here, as promised, for those who would like to cycle into Benimar and possibly try Bar Studz or any of the other good eateries in Benimar:
This route is for Benimar & Rojales and is on quiet roads with minimal traffic . It takes under 30 mins - cycled leisurely. This route misses out the main road from Quesada arches to Benijofar:
Go up the 'Mini Golf' road (Los Arcos ) where the Cycological shop is. At the end where the 'Mini Golf' bar is, cut across the small piece of waste land facing you. There will be small cross-road in front of you. At this cross-road 'Calle Alicante' / 'La Coruna' go straight on down the road 'La Coruna'.
Take the third turning on the right called 'Calle Oviedo' (you will see the large Mercadona sign in front of you and before this right turn, on your left, will be the rear of a big grey warehouse type building which is a Chinese Bazaar)
At first cross-road where Calle Oviedo meets Calle Almeria, turn left into Calle Almeria.
Then go all the way down to the T junction at the end and turn right. Continue on all the way to the end of this road (It is an easy cycle as the road is mostly flat.)
When you get to the end, you will be at a sort of T junction but to stop cars getting through there's a high kerb stone. In front of you will be some villas and the one facing you is called 'Villa Tesoro'. You have to walk the bike over this curb stone and then turn left and go straight on, up a slight incline (There's no road-sign here but it is called 'Rio Tajo').
Keep going straight ahead, past some waste land on your right with an electric pylon in the middle. This road then curves slightly left although it is still 'Rio Tajo'.
You will then see ahead of you a long hill going down (this bit is really fun, as it's possible to carefully free-wheel all the way down to the bottom. However, coming back this hill will appear daunting to us less energetic bikers. However, it is easier than it looks and can be tackled with a combination of walking & gentle cycling.)
Keep going all the way down - The road changes to 'Agua Marina' in the middle.
When you get to the bottom of this hill at the end of the road, you can turn left for Benimar.
For Rojales turn right - Cycle along a little way until you see the Rojales cemetery in front of you. Then take the left hand road into the Avenida de la Constitucion which runs through the centre of Rojales - It is best to walk the bike down this road as it's a very steep downward slope (one way street) and leads straight into Rojales main road. For Guardamar follow on from the cycle route by Cyclogical.
There are other routes to Benimar & Rojales but we use this route to avoid main road traffic. Often this route to Benimar can be almost traffic-free as it passes through quiet residential areas.
There are lots of cycle routes on the Cyclogical website here's the link : http://www.cyclogicalcostablanca.com/
