Chillies on El Raso

Postby adrianb1 » Thu Apr 03, 2014 6:55 pm

At last - after 10 years I have found a good indian restaurant! I have tried Indian Ocean, Punjabi Versa, punjab Palace,Spice Hut etc etc and always thought they are OK-ish but too expensive but this one is as good as any I have had in the UK.

Chillies on El Raso opened a couple of weeks ago. 12.5 E for popadoms/pickle, any starter, any main rice or naan and half bottle of wine (they do other deals) and they really are full of taste and ALL different - you can actually taste the different spices rather than the usual basic sauce with a few bits added. I went with my Indian mate and he was also very impressed with the veggy stuff and the tandoori grills (sizzlers) are great. The food is a bit spicier than the norm in Spain too.

Looking forwards to coming back over and hope its still going. I'd be interested to know what anyone else thinks.

Hmm first post from a new member to sing the praises of a new restaurant. Could this be the new owner doing a bit of promotion or am I just being a cynical old so and so?

Would be interested to hear from established forum users as well.

Yes but, as you say, hopefully we may get a recommendation from some established forum members soon.

Sorry to disappoint the forum cynics but my only personal interest in this restaurant is keeping it open so I can go back to it and see if it is still as good! Like lots of Brits who live near fabulous curry areas in midlands, manc, bradford etc and are used to having good, cheap food, Indian food in Spain is generally pretty poor in comparison. Its always been a disappointment to me that I've never found a place I would/ could recommend. Some of you might remember the old Vesta dried curries that you used to rehydrate and cook and some of the stuff I've had served up has been no better than that and sent straight back!

It will be interesting if they keep it up.......

Thanks for the clarification, apologies for my irreverent show of cynicism

Am over in Quesada on 14th April for 10 days so will see if I can convince the other half to give the place a try.

As a big fan of Indian food I look forward to trying the new restaurant at El Raso. Hopefully it's as good as what adrianb1 says. I have to say I think adrianb1 is a bit critical of the Indian Restaurant's we currently enjoy in Quesada. Too expensive? As someone who regularly dined in Rusholme in Manchester not too many were cheaper than those we enjoy in Quesada!
Anyway, One Man's Meat is another Man's poison or something like that! I just look forward to another Indian restaurant in our area that serves good Indian food at a reasonable price similar to Indian Ocean, Spice Hut etc.
