Please stay friendly in your replies everyone. Animals always are an emotive subject (I've lost count of the amount of topics about pets which have turned into slanging matches and had to be removed!) but there is no need to be rude to anyone who does not feel the same way about animals (dogs or cats).
This forum is for help and advice and a little banter is fine but just keep it friendly and helpful.
marcliff was making a point and airing his frustration which was understandable and we don't want to lose a good and extremely helpful member over a post on cats. I love cats, same as others love dogs, but I can see how this situation can be very upsetting.
There have been some good suggestions on the forum about detering cats from gardens where they are not wanted and thanks everyone for those. Maybe we can continue giving suggestions to help.

Jan, My point is that if a dog poops on the street and the owner does not pick it up (which is too many in Quesada) should you take out the pellet gun and shoot the dog?

No but who would blame us for feeling like that about the owner of the dog, even though we would never act on those feelings. It is very frustrating to see this happen as, with dogs, it's easy for owners to watch them and pick up after them and all responsible dog owners do!

My neighbour has 5 or 6 cats that are always in my garden doing their business. It's disgusting and the smell can be overpowering. They also come onto our terrace and bed down on our outside furniture which now stinks of cat pee and is covered in their fur.
Nothing that I have tried keeps them away and the only thing that is keeping them off the furniture now are some of the branches from another neighbours palm trees which are very spiky. But it is unsightly for us and inconvenient.
Why can't cat owners all use cat litter and train their animals to use that instead of pooing in neighbours gardens.....is that too much to ask? The trouble is the cats are out and about mostly at night and I can't be out armed with a water pistol in the middle of the night....and indeed why should I? If cat owners were more responsible and considerate of their neighbours much of the problem could be resolved. If you can't keep your cats on your own property keep them indoors or don't have them!
We aren't always at our property so when we get back after a spell in England I have to collect all the cat poo in a bucket and dispose of it. On more than one occasion I've taken the half full bucket around to her but nothing ever improves. She says it's not her cats....they wander off in a different direction she says. So when I describe the culprits she then tells me which of her cats that is. Cat owners should take responsibility for their cats and keep them in their own gardens. Dog owners do!

Sorry but after a lot of years of activity for animal protection in Spain, I am speachless.
Has anyone from you an idea, which torture it is for an animal, to get pepper in the nose and in the eyes after cleaning themselve with pepper on their paws??? Sorry but I can´t understand you. These animal are not doing things like this to annoy you. The reason is, that they have nearly no natural areas anymore around, because we humans build here more than enough houses.
I guess, that you have never seen a paralised cat or dog which somebody hurt by shooting with pellets. When this would be the case, you would hopefully not even think about it.

There is so much good and bad everywhere. Myself, I love dogs but fell hook line and sinker for a cat a few months ago. He loves being in are house and garden pretty much most of the time (it's like he appreciates this home and the care) he was once a stray. He spends most nights out on the balcony in his bed, if he accidentally stumbles anywhere I won't worry too much he is pretty ninja.
Interestingly another cat seems to be taking sneaky wee's in our villa! We like to live and have windows open and are constantly in the garden (with Pepe the cat) it's madness. Twice in one week, after putting on clean bedding for family visiting. Very annoying!
Equally as foul are the people I keep seeing bringing several dogs to the plot next to our house. I can understand popping on the nearest bit of non concrete terrain but they just leave it there. It's not even as though they have oomph to do it in daylight. I'm a smoker (I know it's bad) so I may be outside late a night before bed and I can assure at least once every evening people bring their dogs to toilet next to our house in an unused plot.
PS neither are ruining my life but just mentioning perspective on both animals.
