Is anybody using a BritBox with Skynetlink?

If so, what speed internet connection do you have and is it cable or Wimax?

Any problems or downsides to either?

Hello Jon,
We have a few members who use the BritBox but not sure if any use it with the Skynetlink Internet provider. Hopefully someone may be able to help you.

In the meantime these post links below mention the Britbox, if they are of any help to you:

Thanks Jan.

I don't see why the BritBox shouldn't work on a 6Mb Skynetlink connection. I was in their shop today in Rojales and what a helpful lady she was. When we return in April I think I will set up the Skynetlink then get the Britbox. Seems like it will work OK.

Thanks again, Chris

I do the technical support on satellite & IPTV equipment. There is quite a lot of different boxes on the market and judging by the marketing on some of this equipment, the reality (every day use) can be quite different to what is portrayed.

If you are not technically minded, some of the 'subscription free' solutions are complex and functionality is different to that of what many people are used to - may not suitable for everyone. To summarise, one 82 year old man, 23 service emails a service call out to check box not faulty & a couple of hours of phone calls - that is for well configured piece of equipment! On the plus side he has now come to grips with it. This is perhaps why not suitable for all - technical use, would cite (being in support) as very important to people.

Subscription based IPTV solutions are different altogether. Aside from the obvious monthly / yearly charge. You are paying for service provider to give you a standarised quality of TV from a hosted solution. You get other features such as a fully integrated 7 day program guide and 7 day catch up TV. More to the point they are locked down and software in a different league to use & certainly much better for the less technically minded.

Subscription free - you have what ever is available for free on the internet, which can be of varying quality & certainly so with live sport streams. Films, series - variable HD, down to cam or pirate quality.

Very different ways of going about getting TV through the internet. I think the answer probably is, you get what you pay for. :D

Thanks Paul, this is the sort of info I am after. I am technically minded so that side of things doesn't bother me at all but I would like a reliable service/signal.

As I'm not going to be in the property all the time I was looking for a cost effective way of getting UK TV channels and ideally Premiership Football.

What do you think is the best option?

For cost effective solution, you cannot beat the 'free tv' option. For the basic UK terrestrials. Just bare in mind that everything is unpaid / free, so if streams change software may need updating and has been known on the odd occasion to be taken offline for a day or two. Locally you would still be better off with a satellite dish for the UK basics, both financially long term and also quality is best (original format HD).

Free high quality sports streams via IPTV are a little trickier - the problem with the free streaming solutions is you can find the channels or the live streams - but quality can be variable, probably down to server loading - with everyone looking at the free games as the same time. What this can equal in reality is you sitting there with a more than fast enough internet connection, but still watching a stuttering game.

Bottom line if you want 'free' IPTV there is degree of variation and it could not be compared a satellite type system. Certainly when it comes to football, to get any real quality and guaranteed games you usually end up paying for it. For next years football the best quality system will be the official beIN sports packages, with receiver, dish & subscription (1 metre dish). There are now also hosted IPTV solutions with the UK TV and all the Football / Sport - however again a paid for service.

As you mention you are not here all the time (& if you have internet) a 'switch on, switch off' service for the sports. For example one system will allow a month of TV to be switched on at a time, so you just pay as you watch (or for that month anyway). Still subscription, but minimising costs as not tied in for 12 months - pay as you go. That will get you the best quality through IPTV platform.

For a satellite system you'll get the highest quality, though will also have to pay a subscription, though if for UK terrestrials, this would also give you options of Sky sports, whereas some of the IPTV packages (no dish) also have the beIN premier league sports (as well as Sky and others)....

but I would like a reliable service/signal.
With the 'IPTV Free' options - You are not paying a service provider, relying on freely available content from the internet & asking for the best & stable service?

These free systems do work, but if you want a stable service certainly for sports or premium content, then a hosted (paid for) solution, you simply get a better quality service and picture.
You do get value out of the free boxes, but not comparable to a hosted or paid for IPTV service & not 100% ideal for stable sports or all premium content.

Sorry a few answers to the same question....

So as you have said. "You get what you pay for".

I'll give it some thought and if the Sports channels are so unrelaible on pay once "IPTV" then maybe I just need to go to a bar for the games I really want to see.

Lots of good information and advice - thanks again.

hi Jon, have had Brit Box a few months now, no prob with sports and other channels, with the Box you get a bigger choice of sports, plus backdated matches.

I think what I'll do is get the internet in, get a Brit Box and give it a whirl. I'm not bothered about HD quality, more with reliability, especially of the normal UK channels. (Can't miss Corras)
