WiFi installation
by Allan&Ali » Wed Sep 04, 2013 8:11 pm
We are looking to install wireless Internet on a switch on/switch off basis in our apartment (Buenavista Golf XV area) Having researched it we have come up with the following broadband speed and monthly payment options:-
Skynetlink: 2mb - 26 euros / 4mb - 28 euros / 6mb - 36 euros
Dvblab: 3mb 19 euros
Freetvspain: 2mb 19 euros
We wish to know has anyone had experience of these companies for this service in our area and who they would recommend. For example, are the advertised speeds accurate and would 2mb be sufficient?
Many thanks,
Allan & Ali

I use DVBlab for my telephone, computer and television, and have done so for a few years. I find that the communication, with the company, is good - I only have to send an e-mail just before I come out here in order for it to be switched on. I haven't had a "speed" problem!
For me, the only downside is if my visit straddles two months then I have to pay for two months!

You would be lucky to get the 3Mb speed advertised by dvblab. Some times it struggles to get up to 1Mb (I've just done a speed test and it returned 2.08Mb which is quite good but will get slower later on in the day when it gets busier). However, we have been using them for a couple of years and the service is usually dependable. If there is an odd glitch, it is sorted out quite quickly. We have the internet and telephone but ditched the TV system when they started charging €15 a month extra for it. All the channels are available on filmon for free, anyway, and a satellite dish gets much better quality with no monthly payments.
But I digress, back to the internet only. I find the speed ample for browsing the internet etc. I suppose downloading films would be a bit slow as is loading large programs but, in general, works very well. Remember the prices quoted don't include IVA at 21%.

Hi Allan & Ali,
2mb should be fine for general use like browsing the internet, emails and watching a YouTube video but, as Marcliffe says, it may struggle for anything more.
Jan.
PS. If anyone wants to check the speed of their broadband http://www.speedtest.net/ is helpful.
