French Senator Proposes 6 month Homeowner Visa

French Senator Proposes 6 month Homeowner Visa

This is a link from the Costablanca Cabo Roig Forum which may be of interest to UK holiday home owners and might spur a Spanish Politician into action to give weight to the proposal for a 6 month stay Visa with a 5 year validity.

It (sic) good to see a serious politian (sic) acknowlodging (sic) this issue and maybe second home owners in Spain need to form an alliance to put pressure on the Spanish government.

Spanish government? I was under the impression that it's an EU rule.

Schengen countries seem to have many types of Visas so I am sure a Visa for non-EU holiday home owners would be just another type of Visa with each country having their own requirements. I came across this one for the Digital Nomad Visa and each EU country implementing it has different requirements. So not so difficult it would seem to have a non-EU holiday home visa if the will was there.

It'd be great if it could happen, but I can't see it somehow.

Too much resistance, I'd think.

It's not an April fools joke but I can see significant resistance due to the highly discrimatory nature of the proposal in it being for 2nd home owners only.

No. They were talking of applying to extend the time you can stay but were rebuffed by the EU as it's a Schengen visa.

Like Spain, you can apply for a Golden Visa which allows extended stays.

The nomad visa is causing quite a few problems in Barcelona and Madrid. Lot of Europeans have taken advantage of the this visa but rental properties are now at a premium because of it. Average rents in those places for a 2 bed apartment is now 1077 euro per month. Locals are saying they are being priced out of the market.

Surely the resistance would be because of the huge benefits that the current law gives to the member states?

Do you not think Darro that is what would be in its favour. It would have to be discriminatory. All Visas discriminate in some way. Only those who have invested money in the country and paid taxes would be granted the Visa. If you sell your property then you lose your Visa.
