Air fryers

Air fryers

Postby Paulr » Sat Nov 11, 2023 9:04 pm

Hi folks,
I keep hearing people raving about air fryers and wondered whether they're worth the money? I've had a look online at reviews and various websites, such as Amazon and Media Mrkt, but the choice is bewildering and I don't know where to start - it doesn't help that my beloved says it'll be another gadget clogging up her work surfaces!
I'd appreciate some first-hand experience from other members: worth the investment, or not? Essential features to look for? Size, brand, price, etc.? And has anyone bought one and been disappointed? I'm guessing you get what you pay for, but I don't want to make an expensive mistake.
Thanks in advance,
Paul

Nothing new under the sun

Air Fryers

There's even a thread on the Ninja all by itself plus a couple of others. Just put Air Fryer in the Search box and all will be revealed.

I bought a cheapie 79 euros but they've come down in price now. Thought it may have been A 5 min wonder, loved it and wanted better. Bought the Dual Ninja, don't like it, prefer my cheaper one. The Ninja is huge to look at and to be sitting on the side but I find the actual containers too small.

I bought the Hysapientia 24L model with rotisserie it has a light and can see the food cooking, so far so good and saves on power, good luck on your choice plus you can see demos on you tube.

Basically,a air fryer is just a smaller fan oven, just cheaper to run because you’re heating a smaller space usually.

We have had a large Halogen oven for years ,but you can get different sizes to suit your requirements.
Cheaper to buy ,easy to use ,does everything a ninja frier does .

I’ve used an airfryer for over 10 years and upgraded to the oven type over a year ago. Large capacity 10/11 litres, too large to fit in a kitchen cupboard, buts it’s used daily. From bolling eggs, to making a full roast I wouldn’t be without it.
The only thing I don’t use it for is baking as I tend to batch bake, so it’s far quicker to use my “big oven” but for everything else. Mine has a rotisserie, but I’ve yet to find a Spanish chicken weighing less than the max weight, but the rotisserie has been used for other items.
Had a halogen cooker years ago, never used as it was absolutes massive, so when the there was a health scare on them, upgraded to a tefal actifry. Quite expensive to buy and with that massive paddle in the middle never used it for anything more than sausage and chips. So got rid of that And bought my first airfryer and for the first couple of years it was extremely useful for cooking frozen food - it meant the grandkids could raid the freezer and cook their own meals, but now I’m more adventurous and as I say it’s now used all the time. For instance today - fried egg on toast for breakfast, ham croquettes for lunch and lasagne (with garlic bread) waiting to be cooked for evening meal.
Don’t buy anything too small, if it’s not big enough to cook your evening meal in one go, then it’s not saving you money. Lots of people use dishes to cut down on the cleaning, but if it reduces the airflow, then it increases the cooking time, used correctly an airfryer decreases cooking time as well as cooking at a lower temperature.
